as a community partner of visual communications, amwa is thrilled to co-present two film programs: dislocated self and beyond (may 5) and feminist af (may 7).

dislocated self and beyond — may 5, 2018 at 1:15pm at the downtown independent — this shorts program runs 100 minutes featuring films by jeremy sistoso, kuan-fu lin, johnson cheng, jeffrey hseuh, theodore a. adams, jing niu, blake hodges, jackson tobiska, and emory johnson

see amwa member jing niu's "the traveler takamure": in 1918, takamure itsue embarked on a solo pilgrimage to circumnavigate the island of shikoku. takamure went on to become an important japanese feminist, anarchist, and historian of women’s stories. a hundred years later, the filmmaker embarks on a journey to retrace the footsteps of this fearless explorer.

what constructs our identity? interest? passion? culture? race? or all of them? watch as each of the protagonists enter their own journeys to explore the definition of themselves and others.
